About OASE BioSmart 18000
The OASE BioSmart 18000 (SKU 56776) is a standalone continuous-flow pond filter housing intended for garden ponds. OASE states the housing is suitable for ponds up to 18.0 m³ (general pond) and up to 9.0 m³ for ponds with fish; the product family listing also shows a koi capacity of 4.5 m³. The manufacturer gives a maximum flow rate of 5,500 litres per hour for the filter housing. The BioSmart 18000 is described as a mechanical and biological filter that uses multiple foam sponges (2 blue, 1 green and 1 red) arranged in zones to trap debris and support nitrifying bacteria. The product page lists practical installation and service features: two inlets with a universal stepped hose nozzle (1"/25 mm up to 1½"/38 mm), an outlet DN 75, cleaning levers, a bottom drain for coarse debris, a rinse connection and displays for pollutant (degree of soiling) and water temperature. OASE also states the housing may be recessed/buried up to one third of its height. The BioSmart family is offered as a standalone housing (this SKU) and also as a pre-configured BioSmart Set which bundles the filter with matched pump, UVC unit and hose; those components and their electrical ratings are shown on the Set pages but are not part of the standalone filter specifications. OASE does not list certain technical details for the standalone BioSmart 18000 on the product page: no maximum head, no electrical power rating for the housing itself, no UV wattage attributed to the housing, no cable length and no IP/protection rating. Where required, consult OASE product documentation or the Set pages for component specifications when the filter is sold as part of a package.
Best for
Garden ponds up to 18,000 L; ponds with fish up to 9,000 L; koi/heavily stocked ponds up to 4,500 L (manufacturer-stated capacities).
Things to consider
OASE product pages list some conflicting and missing details. Warranty/guarantee statements conflict on OASE pages: the BioSmart 18000 product page states a 3-year guarantee while the BioSmart Set 18000 page states a 2-year guarantee plus a clear water guarantee. The standalone filter page does not provide maximum head, electrical power consumption, UV wattage, cable length, weight, IP/protection rating or maximum operating pressure. Some specifications (pump wattage, UVC wattage, hose length) referenced on OASE appear only on the BioSmart Set page and apply to the Set components, not the standalone filter housing.
Installation
The housing can be recessed/buried up to one-third of its height. Connect inlet hoses to the universal stepped nozzles (25–38 mm) and use the DN 75 outlet. Use the bottom drain and rinse connection for coarse debris removal during installation and servicing. For pump and UVC specifications when using as a Set, refer to the corresponding Set and component pages.
Maintenance
The unit includes cleaning levers, a bottom drain and a rinse connection to assist flushing and removal of coarse debris. Displays for pollutant level (soiling) and water temperature indicate when servicing is required. Follow OASE instructions in the product manual for detailed cleaning procedures.
