About Hozelock Bioforce Revolution 9000
The Hozelock Bioforce Revolution 9000 (model 1353) is a pump-fed, pressurised external pond filter that combines mechanical and biological filtration with an integrated UVC clarifier. Hozelock’s documentation lists a maximum flow (Qmax) for this model of 4,500 litres per hour and a fitted UVC lamp power of 24 W. The unit is supplied with 5.0 m of 3‑core electric cable and is rated IP57 for weather protection. Hozelock describes the internal elements as foam mechanical media with a designated cleaning method identified in the manual as the “Bioforce Revolution Cleaning System: 3”. The manufacturer gives clear sizing guidance: a maximum pond volume of 18,000 litres for clear-water/ornamental ponds and 9,000 litres where fish are present; stocking guidance is quoted as 50 cm of fish length per 1,000 litres. Installation guidance in the official documentation requires the filter to be sited upright (it is weatherproof but not submersible), with a minimum 50 mm clearance if part-buried so it remains removable. The manual states a maximum permitted water temperature of 35 °C and requires an RCD (30 mA) and appropriate earthing/hard‑wiring as per the instructions. Hosetail adaptors supplied accommodate 25 mm, 32 mm and 40 mm Cypriflex hose, and Hozelock recommends using 40 mm hose to reduce restriction. The UV lamp is fitted with a safety interlock and has an indicator lens; Hozelock also specifies the lamp should be replaced every 12 months.
Best for
Owners needing a pressurised external filter with integrated 24 W UVC for ornamental ponds up to 18,000 L (no fish) or ponds with fish up to 9,000 L, using 25/32/40 mm hose (40 mm recommended).
Things to consider
Manufacturer documentation does not state the unit's total electrical power consumption or provide the product's physical dimensions or weight. Exact inlet/outlet machined thread sizes (beyond the listed hose diameters), a pressure-vs-flow curve or operating pressure values are not provided. There are multiple pump/flow statements in the manual: model Qmax is given as 4,500 l/h, a model 'Max Hozelock Aquaforce pump size' is listed as 6,000 l/h, and a general range warning says do not use a pump with flow greater than 8,000 l/h; these manufacturer statements are presented as found and have not been reconciled.
Installation
Site the unit upright; it is weatherproof but not submersible and must not be allowed to fall into the water. If part-burying, leave a minimum 50 mm clearance so the unit can be removed. Use recommended hose sizes (40 mm recommended to reduce restriction) and keep hose runs short. A 30 mA RCD must be fitted to the mains supply and earthing/hard-wiring must follow the manufacturer instructions. Do not use a pump with a maximum head greater than 5 m; follow the manufacturer guidance on maximum pump sizes.
Maintenance
Clean foam/mechanical filter elements as described in the Bioforce Revolution Cleaning System documentation. Replace the UVC lamp every 12 months as stated by Hozelock. Check the UV indicator lens and ensure the lamp interlock operates before performing electrical or lamp maintenance.
Safety
The UV lamp is fitted with a safety interlock that will switch the lamp off if the electrical housing is opened. The unit must be earthed and supplied via a 30 mA RCD per the manual. The filter is not submersible and must be sited upright; do not allow it to fall into the pond. Observe the maximum permitted water temperature of 35 °C and follow all manufacturer wiring and installation instructions.
